So while I was diving off the beach and marvelling at the three eagle rays that joined us for about ten minutes... the rest of Sharm was enjoying a spectacle never heard of here.
People were doing the kind of dive that you normally expect to see off the coast of South West Africa with helicopter support and at great expense. Just off the reef at Near Garden (one of our humble local dive sites) there was a bait ball of enourmous proportions (around 14M in diameter) through which four whale sharks were having a bit of a feeding fest, ploughing through the dense forest of sardines, apparently filtering off their excrement.
Divers and snorklers alike spent the day jumping in to witness this incredible sight. Absolutely outstanding. As news spread via the mobile grapevine, more and more day boats ferried back from places like Ras Mohammed and Tiran to get a glimpse of this event, so pretty much everyone who was diving off a boat in Sharm that day got to enjoy the experience of a lifetime.
Even the guides (who let's face it, have been pretty spoilt this summer) were struck by this awesome scene, and by evening, the bars once again were alive with people re-liviing the dive. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Oh bet you were bit jealous! Sod's law eh?
Well, at least you've got to see the whale sharks at all I still don't think they exist.
