And I have been beaten into the dry suit by Katie! Woo Hoo.. it is normally me that is the wuss of the team.
In truth, however I probably won't be far behind. Unlike last year, whilst the weather is still lovely and warm, the water has cooled to around 27ºC on the local sites.
I know this sounds toasty and warm to all you UK divers and those that dive in cooler climes, but when you are doing three one hour dives within a fairly short amount of time, it can get a little chilly. And 27ºC on local dives means cooler up in Tiran... well it is probably a good thing, as the 29ºC temperatures in December last year were cited as a potential trigger for the tragic shark attacks that occurred. The very warm waters meant that the sharks' metabolisms were running much higher than normal, whereas by that time in the year, a lot of the fish stocks will have dropped. So along with a whole host of other issues (such as fish feeding, the dumping of animal carcasses, and over fishing.. all illegal by the way) it had been a disaster waiting to happen.
