And finally I get my first hammerhead sighting of the year this week!! Woo Hoooo!!!
Every summer when the weather is calm enough, we all try heading out to dive the North side of Jackson Reef in Tiran here, in the hope of getting a fleeting glimpse of a scalloped hammerhead shark or two.
Unfortunately this year I have only managed to get around there twice, and most unfairly, on the first time, the sharks did not turn up (how inconsiderate of them!).
Anyway the second time, which was two days ago, we headed around, dropped in and sat in the blue in anticipation again. We even got to the stage where we thought they weren't going to turn up, but as we headed back towards the reef, a little forlorn... Jo suddenly pointed down, and there they were.. circling deep below us.. awesome sight!!! I saw two, but apparently there was another one down there.
So, back to the boat we headed, dead chuffed that we had all managed to see these incredible creatures once again. ;D

If it is any consolation, we tried looking for them again this week and the gods were definitely not with us this time... it was a bit swelly, so quite a challenging entry and that also meant that we needed to aim for a specific sheltered area for the pick up... well the current wasn't playing ball and was flying hard in the wrong direction! (too rough for a current check) So we spent our dive swimming against this current, only to end up ascending further along in the wrong direction than we started! So the pick up was a bit of a rough one too... and after all that, we didn't see any sharks at all!!!
Guess that is mother nature for you.. she rules the roost out here, and whilst we can do everything in our powers to nudge things our way, she always wins the day. ;D
