So to cap off our trip to the Cape quite magestically, we saw whales while we were in Hermanus. Bizarrely they are normally gone by now, heading off on their journey south to the colder waters, but for some reason there are still a few hanging around the bay made famous by it's giant visitors. First of all I just saw a tail fin, then amazingly we saw a massive nose come out of the water and it breached. This was followed by more splashing about and rolling around on the surface (the whale.. not us) before she did a graceful dip and dived under. We then realised that there was a calf lolling around closer to shore, who we watched for ages whilst sat in a bar with the best sea view in town.. yes sorry we weren't diving at the time. The best bit of the whole session was when a mother and calf worked their way really close to shore and I made a feeble attempt to catch them on film (it sooo never does nature justice does it??). What an amazing afternoon.
