So... now you're over there, have you done it yet? Have you been in the big ocean in a cage and met a big sharky face to face? Spill the beans, what is it like?

err no...
Ok so I have dipped my toes in the water a few times, and no matter how many times I try, there is no getting away from the fact that whilst I am sure that the diving here is outstanding... 9'C is just a little bit too nippy for me to be getting my hair wet. I would love to wend my way through one of their awesome kelp forests here, but just can't see me being able to spend more than 5 minutes underwater.
Having said that, I am still toying with the idea of doing the shark thing down in Hermanus where we are headed today... The water there is much warmer... will keep you up to date should anything happen.

Sorry I missed this post, bit of a late reply In answer to your question.... erm no I didn't brave the sharks! I was on the brink of it, and had even found a woman who takes a regular boat out, and thought being the only female shark guide in Hermanus, she would be a great candidate for a bit of an article. However once we got chatting about it all, we realised that it seemed like a hell of a price to pay for a half day on the boat, added to which we had to make our own way to the town where the jetty was. For over £100 you would think that transport would be provided. Especially as trips all the way from Cape Town were the same price including transport. On top of all this, I did have a bit of an issue with the whole chumming aspect of the shark dives. I am used to seeing sharks in their relaxed, elegant glory, going about their normal business, not in the middle of a feeding frenzy where they are being teased by lumps of tuna on a rope. So.. no I didn't do the dive. I would be really interested in the dive that Michaela Stracchan did. It was actually a mini course, where you learn to read the shark's behaviour and dive without the cage and without chumming the water (needless to say!). Now that sounds like a dive worth doing!!!! ;D
