You may well have heard, Sharm had a bit of a storm recently.
In fact, amazingly it was a week ago this evening that the thunder and lightning first started to growl and flash in the distance.
After an incredible 12 hours of thunder, lightning and torrrrrrential rain, a rather soggy, drenched and decidedly flooded Sharm awoke (from what little sleep had been grasped) to assess the damage.
Most apartments experienced some kind of flooding, either via air-conditioning units or windows that simply not needed to be that waterproof! The airport roof collapsed, so the old terminal is currently closed, causing delays for those coming and going. The main roads were dramatically flooded, although now are all completely clear. The reefs were smothered with a thick muddy wash from the surrounding mountains and desert, however already mother nature has worked her magic and these are once again restored to their former glory.
No diving happened last monday, as in the aftermath, we had a very strong westerly wind battering the place.. not to mention the logistics of being able to transfer guests and staff when all the main roads were under water!
As I said, however, all is now back to normal. Boats are going out to all the reefs, all the restaurants have dried out their rugs and cushions, and it is business as usual. To help this, the sun has been a constant since Tuesday, helping dry the town back out and restore our reputation as a winter sun destination!! Hehe
