Sad news indeed, on the 1st January a huge cargo ship ran aground on the back of Woodhouse Reef in the Tiran Straits here in Sharm.
What gets me is that there are clearly marked shipping lanes to either side of the cluster of reefs that stretch across the gulf, and no ship should ever come anywhere near Woodhouse Reef which is a quarter of a kilometer long and is right in the middle of the gulf (about as far away from the recognised shipping lanes as you can possibly get).
Well I only hope that the reef isn't too devastated... corals have been growing there for hundreds if not thousands of years, and where the ship collided with the reef is right where we look for baby white tipped reef sharks when conditions allow us to dive this side of the reef.
