Well last week we actually got some decent bins here in Hadaba! It used to be that all our rubbish ended up sitting in a rotting pile until the council eventually decided to clear it up a bit.. 24 hours later, the pile would once again be growing and rotting. But thanks to new sponsorship and concern, all that is to end. I was most impressed to walk out last week to see two big shiny new bins in front of our house. And... even better, they were labelled "organic waste" and "inorganic waste"! Even better! They are trying to recycle here... about time. I have already seen trucks piled up with folded boxes and cardboard, a good sign of things recycling. However I was a little disappointed when one of our two special bins disappeared. So now what are we supposed to do with the inorganic waste?? Hmmm.

Hmm double disappointment now, as both bins have disappeared! What's that about?
Well bang goes all my attempts at separating my rubbish.
Will still look into making a little composting pot though, it sounds relatively easy, and what better way to make use of your organic waste?? Because of the heat here, apparently it is possible to create decent compost in only 6 weeks! ;D

Did they put the bins back in the end? I went to Sharm a few months ago and was shocked by the amount of plastic litter in the desert.. you imagine it would be all sand, mountains and wilderness, but there were bottles dotted everywhere and in the cracks of the mountainsides, what initially looked like ice, turned out to be piles of plastic!!

Sadly the bins are now completely battered. One bin remains in each rubbish dumping location, not attempt to separate the rubbish happens simply because, it gets completely ignored. Also it is quite common for people to simply drop their rubbish beside the bin as opposed to in it! I don't understand, if you have walked with your bag all the way to the bin, why then do you not take the tiny extra bit of effort needed to pop it in the bin.
I had an argument with a local chap the other day when he got off his bike and threw a bag into the bushes just outside his apartment. He tried to claim it was food for his cat.. then told me to go back to my own country if I didn't like it. Hmmm actually.. at times... when I meet people like that... most tempting. I don't think he quite got the fact that I was actually trying to encourage him to make his own country a better place.
