Good luck with your quest... a great idea to get out and see a bit of the world before you get bogged down with (albeit very important) studies and student loans.
As for working in Sharm, I would say definitely come out with a bit of a financial buffer as you may not work straight away. At the moment things are quiet, I must be honest. Most of the bigger dive centres will also want you to be a fully qualified instructor, or at least planning to do your IDC with them before giving you work as a DM. However if things do get busy, you might strike lucky, and pick up some work if a centre is running short of instructors. (Christmas is sometimes a good time for this, as many instructors head home to see family, leaving the dive centres a little short on staff). I know the financial situation is affecting work here, so be aware, work might still be thin on the ground.
By all means send out emails to the main centres, although in reality, it is a case of being in the right place at the right time... once you are here, get around all the dive centres with your CV and peddle your wares basically. If you are heading over here anyway, then that is great, just get out and about and visit all the centres, see what they say.
The reality is that yes we are doing a job we love, and living in a country where the sun shines almost every day... and that alone makes up for any negative points.
I will say though, that it can be hard work, it may look like we live a chilled life, lounging on the boat, with a bit of diving thrown in. But be prepared for early mornings, and busy days with not a lot of time to relax on the boat. (if you somehow find the time to lie down for a snooze (not that that is allowed), there's a fair chance you have forgotten to do something important! hehe)
But we get to meet new people every week, do a huge amount of diving and live against a stunning backdrop of turquoise sea and peachy mountains, so that is all pretty cool in my book. ;D
Oh bit of a long story... so I'll tell you the short version:
I came out in 2005 planning to do my IDC and get a bit of experience during the summer before starting a new job in September of that year. Well the new job fell through, so it kind of felt like fate telling me to stay for a bit... so I did. And I'm still here! Hehe.
That would be amazing! But..... i don't think i am ready for an IDC right now, i have a fair ammount of experience in diferent diving conditions, but i need to just need to, well... dive a bit more first! i want to make sure i am ready for it! I will be looking into IDC next summer if this summer goes to plan! Thanks very much tho!
