I am soooo glad that when it was suggested that at our wedding we got all the children to release balloons into the sky, I immediately responded with a resounding "no" because they will end up landing somewhere and causing a problem. Only now has the issue been brought to the public light, as the balloons do indeed land somewhere, and invariably get mistaken for food or just generally cause problems with the wildlife in that area. I know they are often released for charity, or at weddings and special events, but balloons are not easily broken down and if they do land in the water, much like plastic bags, resemble food. Never a good thing.
