So after some dreadful news this week of a propellor accident in Shark's Bay, the cry for prop guards on dive boats has once again gone out.
For years people have said that there should be cages around the propellors on dive boats. When you have so many dropping off and picking up divers on busy reefs, surely it makes sense to cage your props in order to prevent this kind of horrific accident.
Since my arrival in Sharm, the most stress is placed on maintaining buoyancy, safe ascent and descent locations in every dive briefing. However some divers, do struggle sometimes, and I guess it was only a matter of time before something dreadful would happen.
So we call for the boats here in Sharm to take action themselves and put prop guards on their boats, in the hope that this never happens again.

We heard the sad news too.
It is about time there was some kind of protection on these boats. I know it is not the skipper's fault if divers ascend in a dangerous place, but if the propellors are caged, at least it will prevent lives being lost, and probably protect wildlife at the same time.
I think it should be noted that this kind of incident is not a normal occurrence. Both skippers and dive guides take great care to ensure the utmost precautions are taken regarding safety on ascents and descents, even snorklers and swimmers are made well aware of these precautions too.
