Sadly the famous turtle Dave lost his fight last month and is no more.
His story had become well known and he was a great sight to see foraging around the reefs of Ras Mohammed oblivious to the fibreglass patch on his shell. It was always a good day to see him around, to know that he has won another day after his close brush with death back in January.
Sadly we had noticed him moving a little less and looking a little on the scrawny side (or was that just us being over protective? We weren't sure.
Back in August, he did lose that battle to survive, and there now sits a pyramid in Naama Bay erected by his Red Sea College saviours dedicated as "Daves Grave". Unfortunately I do keep forgetting to pre-warn my students who always have a bit of a moment when they see it, thinking some diver Dave came a cropper there! Ooops.

what a shame - I will feel privaleged to have met him - 1 of my first dive's in ras mo, when he was sleeping in that strange position!
3 1/2 weeks until we come out again - I can't wait, I am constantly dreaming about diving!
