Last week i went diving, but instead of using a conventional BCD, or twinset, was diving on a sidemount harness. A side mount harness is just made out of webbing with D rings attached and two sets of bungee. You clip the bottom of the cylinder to a back mounted D ring, and use bungee to secure the valve of the tank so it sits just like a stage, but is easily unclipped so you can swing the cylinders n front of yourself to fit through small holes in wrecks or caves. (The reg and hose config in this photo is not ideal, but for a play dive it was fine.) The rig was so much fun to dive on, buoyancy was really easy, because i had no wing or BCD, i was just using my drysuit inflate. you can move through the water so much faster, as you are more streamlined, and entry and exit from the water was so much easier than it is in a twinset! Another good point from diving in ths set up it redundancy. Instead of having to reach behind to do a shut down, the valves are directly in front of you so you can see what is happening! Also if you needed to donate an air source to another diver you can give them an entire cylinder, rather than having to share an air source! Over all it was lots of fun, and i can't wait to try the rig out again!
