Well I guess you could say I was spoilt, as my initial diving experience was the Red Sea! I have yet to discover the joys of good old British diving, though no doubt I shall end up in a gravel pit somewhere nearby later this year. In the meantime, however I am due to head South once again to the Red Sea for a nice little liveaboard. I shall fill you in on my return. I would love to hear about anyone else's travels, be they to this nice little bit of ocean or even a murky puddle somewhere...

Well further to my message above, I have now returned from my Red Sea trip and once again it didn't fail me. The whole trip was an astounding success. This was somewhat helped by the great guides that we had on board, Sarah and Trish who gave us all the right hints as to what to look for, where to go etc. The sea is just beginning to rev up to its summer bloom of life with shoals of fish beginning to form. The snapper wall in Ras Mohammed is burgeoning and the yellow haze of one spot snappers is also blossoming on the wreck of the Sarah H. Any one else who has been there recently, do post a message, especially if you have seen the tiger sharks that have returned to Gordon Reef again this year or one of the whale sharks that have apparently been spotted over the last week or so!

The diving itself I would give 8 out of 10… I'm being quite harsh there, as there are other places around the world that I have heard have spectacular diving and I have yet to visit them. From my own experience, the Red Sea is absolutely the best diving… crystal clear water, pretty reef, loads of fish and plenty of wrecks if you like to see a bit of metal on the odd occasion.
I would say that it loses points on the sheer number of divers there at any one time. Sharm itself is getting to be more of a tourist resort in itself which for some of you may be good, others not so good. If you like your creature comforts and being able to get cash easily etc, then Sharm is fantastic. If you like your diving a little more remote, you may prefer Dahab.
As for providing spectacular diving for all levels of divers, well Sharm certainly does that!
