Hmmm you definitely have been away for a bit.
No they are not selling off the Thistle at all! But yes it is closing, as the HEPCA authorities have finally realised that there are a good few safety issues associated with diving this fantastic wreck.
The main issue is with the boats having to moor up on the wreck itself, not only gradually destrying the structure, but putting the guides under risk of coming a cropper (basically). Having tied on myself, I agree that this can only be a good move, but quite how they are going to organise it, I am not sure.
I believe they are going to install fixed moorings around the area with descent and ascent lines attached to the wreck. Good idea, but will require a rib for divers to be dropped off, not sure how that will work with daily boats.
They are also going to drill holes in the structure to release some of the air that has been collecting in pockets causing the iron to oxidise and crumble. Another good move, but relish that stunning reflection effect in the captain's cabin while it lasts.
There will also be new briefing guidelines with regards to diving the wreck too. Maybe insulting to some, but in all honesty it is about time this site was treated more like a reef and less like a climbing frame. I don't know what it is about wrecks that makes people think they can clamber all over it, regardless of any coral attached.
Anyway, hope that has cleared things up for you Waterbabe... welcome home. Hope you had a great trip.
